01

Architecture and context

The project is read from several distances: from the architecture around the pool, from terraces and circulation routes, and from within the water. The composition was therefore developed to maintain a clear presence without disconnecting from the materials and proportions of the property.

02

Artistic response

A restrained geometric mosaic with selected green stone, connecting the colour of the water with the planting and materials of the residence. The technique was selected for its ability to work with changing light and water movement. Scale, colour and position were reviewed so the artwork would remain legible from the principal viewpoints.

03

How the work was developed

The work followed Bassform’s sequence of site reading, creative direction, visual development, production and supervised installation. Decisions were reviewed with the project team before the final piece was integrated into the pool.

Design decisions behind the project

A restrained geometric mosaic with selected green stone, connecting the colour of the water with the planting and materials of the residence. The composition was considered in relation to the scale of the pool, the distance from which it would be viewed and the way sunlight changes the water throughout the day. The goal was not simply to place an image or object on the pool floor, but to make the water part of the visual experience.

Handcrafted mosaic requires decisions about support, proportion, colour, detail and installation sequence. In Tuscany, Italy, those decisions were organised so the artwork could remain legible from the surrounding architecture while offering a different reading to someone swimming above it.

The technical team and artistic team work with a shared sequence. The pool shell and support must be prepared correctly before production reaches its final stage. Dimensions and reference points are checked before installation, reducing last-minute adjustments that could change the composition.

The finished project is maintained as part of the pool system. Water treatment, cleaning, inspection and any future repair should follow the information recorded during production. This approach protects the visual result and makes the project easier for the property team to manage.
